Description

Product Overview

Built for longboards and the way they move, this is a ten-foot longboard surf leash with a 7 mm cord and a hypalon ankle cuff. It is aimed at medium to large waves and at boards from roughly 9 ft upward: noseriders, logs, mid-lengths, the kind of board a surfer buys once and keeps for years. Put it in front of that customer and the conversation usually settles on the cuff, because the cuff is the part they will feel for the next three hours.

Ten feet is the longest surf leash length in our 7 mm hypalon group, so this model sits at the top of that ladder. It carries the same lightweight cuff and TPU cord as the shorter hypalon leashes, with the extra reach a 9 ft to 10 ft board needs when it is pushed around in the whitewater and the cord goes from slack to loaded in a second.

We are a surf leash manufacturer, and we supply this model as part of a wholesale programme — the sort of order that fills an accessory wall rather than a single hook. If you are building a leash range for a shop, a chain or a distribution territory, this is the 10 ft hypalon entry that sits between the 9 ft model and the heavier 8 mm builds.

Materials & Construction

The specification lists 60% TPU, 15% polypropylene, 10% neoprene, 10% nylon and 5% stainless steel, and that describes the whole leash rather than one part. The TPU is the cord, polypropylene and nylon form the strap and webbing sections, neoprene sits inside the cuff as padding, and the stainless content covers the swivels and the hardware anchoring the rail saver.

The cuff itself is hypalon, and it is the reason this model feels different from our neoprene-cuffed leashes. Hypalon is a dense synthetic rubber that does its job in a thin layer, so the cuff can be built light and still hold its shape when it is wet and being pulled at. Riders who dislike a bulky strap around the ankle are the ones who usually end up here.

The cord is where the work happens. A 7 mm TPU cord has to stretch and recover thousands of times without going slack or taking a permanent set, and it has to do that in salt water and sun. We build this one from top-grade TPU, the same material that runs through the rest of the hypalon and regular range. For context, our cords run from 5 mm on small-wave leashes to 9 mm on the SUP models; 7 mm is the middle of that spread, which is why this leash suits longboard conditions rather than heavy water.

Hardware is deliberately simple: two 316 stainless swivels and a streamlined rail saver, anchored so the load passes through the cord rather than through the stitching. CIMI has been a surf leash manufacturer since 2007, and the leashes, fins, traction and covers in the range are built in the same house — one supplier, one set of tolerances.

- Made for longer boards — A regular longboard ankle leash rated for medium to large waves or a longer board, which is exactly the gap a 6 ft or 7 ft leash leaves once the board passes 9 ft. - The ankle stays free — The ultra-light hypalon cuff with strong construction keeps material off the ankle; on a surfboard ankle leash you wear for hours, that is the difference between noticing it and forgetting it. - Cord that holds its line — Top-grade TPU at 7 mm gives stable strength under load and comes back straight instead of staying kinked. It is the same cord family used across the range, up to the heavier big wave surf leash builds. - Rail protection built in — The streamlined rail saver takes the wear where the cord meets the board, so the tail of a longboard does not get chewed by its own leash. - Marine-grade hardware — 316 stainless steel swivels let the leash turn with the rider rather than winding up, and 316 is the grade we specify for fittings that live in salt water. - Same build, order after order — Every run is assembled to one specification by the same surf leash manufacturer, so a repeat order matches the sample your buyers signed off.

Board Length & Wave Conditions

  • 9 ft to 10 ft boards — This is where a ten-foot longboard surf leash earns its place: the cord has enough reach for a long board to tumble in the wash without going bar tight and yanking the ankle.
  • Noseriders and logs — Cross-stepping and walking the board loads the leash differently from a shortboard turn, and the extra length keeps the cord clear of the tail while the rider moves.
  • Medium to large waves — Chest-high through well overhead on a longboard is the band this model is built for; the cord and cuff are matched to that range, not to a shortboard in the same surf.
  • Measured against the board — The usual rule for surf leash length is to match the board, not the rider: lay the leash alongside the board and the cord should come out roughly level with the tail once the rail saver and cuff are taken up.
  • Shortboards and small days — A ten-foot leash on a 6 ft board is extra cord to manage in the water; the shorter leashes in the range do that job better.
  • Where this model stops — It is a longboard leash, not a big wave surf leash, and the difference shows up in cord diameter as soon as the water gets serious.

Model Comparison

ModelBuildStated useWhat it means for the buyer
L22515H — 10 ft 7 mm hypalon (this model)7 mm TPU cord; ultra-light hypalon cuff; streamlined rail saverMedium to large waves or a longer boardThe lightest cuff option in the 10 ft 7 mm group; choose it when ankle bulk is the deciding factor on a longboard surf leash.
L22515 — 10 ft 7 mm regular7 mm TPU cord; double-padded neoprene cuff; streamlined rail saverMedium to large waves or a longer boardSame length and cord as this model, but the cuff is padded neoprene rather than hypalon; for riders who prefer cushioning over a minimal cuff.
L22607 — 10 ft 8 mm regular8 mm TPU cord; double-padded neoprene cuff; 38 mm rail saverRegular SUP ankle leash for medium wavesA step up in cord diameter and rail coverage, with a padded cuff; it is the thicker regular build, not a hypalon alternative.
L22514H — 9 ft 7 mm hypalon7 mm TPU cord; ultra-light hypalon cuff; streamlined rail saverSmall to medium waves on a longboardOne foot shorter and aimed at smaller days; same cuff feel, less surf leash length for a shorter longboard.
L00575H — 9 ft 8 mm hypalon8 mm TPU cord; ultra-light hypalon cuff; 38 mm rail saverMedium to large waves or a longer boardKeeps the hypalon cuff but adds the 8 mm cord and wider rail saver; the pick when a buyer wants a light cuff and more cord than 7 mm.

Care & Inspection

  1. Rinse the whole leash in fresh water after every session — salt crystals and sand are what wear swivels and stitch lines first.
  2. Dry it in the shade rather than on a hot deck; cord and cuff both last longer when they are not baked between sessions.
  3. Check the cuff strap and stitching before each paddle out, because a surfboard ankle leash only works if the closure is sound.
  4. Spin the swivels by hand: they should turn freely and quietly, and a stiff swivel is the early sign that grit has got in.
  5. Run the cord through your fingers looking for nicks, fuzz or flat spots, and take the leash out of service when you find them.
  6. Store it loose — hung straight or coiled without tension — instead of crushed under boards in a hot car.

Scale & Supply Capability

CIMI is a factory-based supplier with 16 years in surf and watersports hardgoods, manufacturing at our own facility rather than sourcing through traders. Chain stores, supermarkets and surf-brand stores buy from us because one supplier covers a full accessory assortment, so a season's order and its reorders can be planned together. We take on OEM and private-label work, adapting designs, colourways and branding to your programme, and we schedule production against your agreed range plan. Send us your buy list and target dates, and we will confirm what we can make and when.

FAQ

Why choose a hypalon cuff instead of a neoprene cuff?

Hypalon does the job with less material. It is a dense synthetic rubber that keeps its shape in a thin layer, so the cuff sits light on the ankle instead of wrapping it in padding. Our neoprene cuffs, the double-padded ones on the regular leashes, feel softer against the skin and suit riders who want cushioning between ankle and strap. Both come from the same surf leash manufacturer — us — so a shop can stock the two side by side and let the customer feel the difference.

Will the cuff stay comfortable over a long session?

Comfort on a surfboard ankle leash comes down to how much material sits against the ankle and whether the strap can be set tight without pinching. The hypalon cuff is thin and light, and the hook-and-loop strap adjusts to the ankle so it closes over a wetsuit or bare skin. The extra length helps as well: a 10 ft cord delivers the pull later and softer than a short leash, so the ankle takes less of a jolt when the board is washed around.

Can this leash be made with our own logo and packaging?

Yes. This model can be supplied as a custom surf leash with your logo on the cuff and your own card or sleeve. Send us the artwork, the cuff colour you want and the quantities, and we will confirm what the cuff and packaging can carry before anything goes into production.

Is a 7 mm cord enough when the surf gets serious?

In longboard conditions, yes. The 7 mm cord is built for the load a 9 ft to 10 ft board puts on it in medium to large waves. Past that — heavy water, a board that catches a lot of it — riders want more cord, and a big wave surf leash is a different build rather than a longer version of this one. We make 8 mm and 9 mm cords in the same range, so tell us the conditions your customers actually surf and we will point you to the right model.

Do you supply shops and distributors as well as brands?

Yes. This is a wholesale surf leash model, supplied to surf shops, chain stores, supermarkets with sports sections and distributors, as well as to brands running their own label. Minimum order quantity, pricing and lead time depend on the model mix, the destination and the packaging, so your sales contact confirms those for each order.
