Description

Product Overview

Longboards travel further than shortboards after a wipeout, and a leash that is too short pulls the tail under before you can reach it. This one, model No. L22515N, is sized for that job: 10 ft of 7 mm cord, a padded non-slip ankle cuff, a streamlined rail saver at the board end and two stainless swivels in between.

It is an ankle-cuff leash rather than a knee cuff, so it stays out of the way while you sit on the board waiting for a set, and the extra length gives room to cross-step without the cord loading up. Longboarders riding medium to large waves are the riders it was built around, and it also suits anyone on a longer mid-length who wants more reach than a 7 ft or 9 ft leash gives.

Shops usually merchandise this non-slip surf leash beside the other 10 ft options, so a customer can weigh a lighter 7 mm cord against a thicker 8 mm one on the same wall. CIMI has worked as a surf leash manufacturer since 2007, and this model is built to the same construction standard as the rest of the range.

Non-Slip Ankle Cuff

  • Grip where it matters. The inside face of the cuff is built to hold its position on the ankle, which is what separates a non-slip surf leash from a plain neoprene strap; once it is set it should not rotate around the leg during a duck dive or a long paddle-out.
  • Padded neoprene. The cuff is padded neoprene, doubled where the strap pulls hardest, so the pressure of a loaded leash is spread across a wide band instead of cutting into one spot.
  • Hook-and-loop closure. A generous hook-and-loop tab gives plenty of overlap, so the strap still closes firmly when it is soaked or worn over a wetsuit ankle.
  • Woven outer strap. The outer strap is woven rather than a smooth rubber panel, so it keeps its shape through repeated soakings instead of stretching out over a season.
  • Stitched reinforcement. A stitched patch at the strap junction spreads the load away from a single stitch line, which is the usual failure point on a cheaper cuff.
  • Set it once. Because the longboard ankle leash does not need re-adjusting mid-session, you can tighten it on the beach and leave it alone until you get out.

TPU Cord Construction

Why TPU. The cord is top-grade TPU, chosen because it holds two properties that usually fight each other: it stretches under load, then returns to its original length instead of staying stretched. A cord that keeps a permanent stretch changes the way the board sits behind you, and that is usually where tangles begin.

The 7 mm diameter. On a 7 mm surf leash the diameter is a straight trade between strength and drag. 7 mm gives enough material to absorb a longboard being pulled through whitewater without turning into a stiff rope that lies on the water instead of cutting through it.

Flex through the section. The cord bends easily near the rail end and firms up as it loads, so the first part of a pull feels soft on the ankle and the strength arrives where it is needed.

Salt, sun and sand. TPU keeps its feel after repeated soakings, resists the surface cracking that sun exposure causes on cheaper cord, and sheds sand rather than working it into the surface.

How the ends are finished. Both ends are moulded into the rail saver and the swivel fittings, so the pull passes through the fittings rather than through a knot or a stitched loop. Designed for longboards, it fits a range of board sizes and styles, making it a versatile addition to your surf gear.

Rail Saver & Board Protection

  • What the part does. The rail saver is the webbing section between the cord and the leash plug. It is the piece that actually touches the board, so it takes the abrasion instead of the rail.
  • Why the profile matters. A streamlined rail saver sits flat against the tail and does not flap or catch when the cord goes slack, and slack is when most tail damage happens.
  • Load spread. The woven strap spreads the pull along a section of the tail rather than concentrating it at the plug. On a longboard ankle leash that matters more than on a shortboard leash, because a longer board swings further at the end of the cord.
  • When a big wave surf leash goes taut. The angle between cord and board changes fast; the rail saver keeps that angle off the glass and lets the webbing take the rub.
  • Thread it correctly. Pass the webbing, not the cord, through the leash plug so the strap is the part in contact with the rail.
  • When to retire it. Frayed webbing or a worn stitch line at the rail saver is the cue to replace the leash, even when the cord still looks sound.

Double Swivel System

Two swivels, not one. There is a 316 stainless steel swivel at the board end and another at the cuff. Each takes the rotation out of its own half of the leash, so the cord never gets a chance to wind itself into a coil.

Why 316. The swivels are 316 stainless rather than a lower grade because this part sits wet in salt water for hours at a time. 316 resists pitting and surface corrosion noticeably better than 304 in the same conditions.

What it feels like in use. A leash with working swivels hangs straight when you stand on the beach and stays straight when you paddle out, so you spend less time shaking loops out of the cord between sets.

Under load. When a big wave surf leash goes taut and then releases, the twist travels into the swivels instead of into the cord, which is what stops the cord from taking a permanent set.

Check them. Turn both swivels between your fingers before a session; they should move freely and quietly. One that feels gritty should be looked at before it seizes.

Length, Cord Thickness & Wave Range

  1. Start with board length. The 10ft surf leash is the pairing for longboards and longer mid-lengths, where the board slides well away from you after a wipeout and a shorter leash would drag it back under your feet.
  2. Then match cord thickness to the waves you ride. A 7 mm surf leash covers medium to large surf while keeping enough flex for a longboard; the 8 mm cord in the same range is the step up for riders who want more diameter at the same length.
  3. Decide the cuff style. This model uses an ankle cuff. Knee-cuff leashes are the alternative for stand-up paddleboards, or for riders who prefer the attachment higher on the leg.
  4. Check it against the boards you stock. The leash attaches through a standard leash plug and works with longboards, mid-lengths and other boards of a similar size, so one length can cover several models on a shop wall.
  5. Widen the ladder if you need to. As a custom surf leash supplier we build the same cuff, cord, swivel and rail saver construction across a range of lengths and thicknesses, so a shop can stock short lengths, longboard lengths and SUP lengths from one source without the construction changing between them.

Weight & Handling

  • Light for its length. A 10ft surf leash carries a lot of cord, and the TPU used here keeps the weight down so the leash does not drag the tail as you sit on the board.
  • Flexible in cold water. The cord stays supple in cold water, so it straightens out rather than holding a kink from the last session.
  • Coils without memory. It can be looped for storage or travel and still hangs straight on the next paddle out.
  • Does not fight your feet. The cuff is padded and low-profile, so it sits under a wetsuit leg without bunching and does not catch on the board when you move around.
  • Packs small. It rolls into a board bag pocket with the rest of your kit and adds very little weight to a travel bag.

Care & Inspection

After every session. Rinse the whole non-slip surf leash in fresh water — cord, swivels, cuff and rail saver — and turn the swivels while it is wet so salt does not dry inside them.

Dry it loose. Hang it in the shade rather than leaving it coiled tight on a hot deck. Long exposure to sun is hard on the cord and on the cuff padding.

Store it off tension. Loop it loosely and avoid leaving it compressed in a bag for months at a time; a cord held in a tight bend for a whole season takes longer to straighten.

Watch the three wear points. The cord next to each moulded connector, the stitch line where the rail saver meets the webbing, and the grip face inside the cuff are the places that show age first.

Replace, do not repair. Once the cord is nicked or the webbing is frayed, the sensible move is a new leash. Nothing on this model is designed to be spliced or re-stitched.

Ordering & Delivery

  1. Fix the specification first. Tell us the model and length you want, and whether it is a single 10 ft line or a wholesale longboard surf leash programme covering several lengths and cuff styles.
  2. Confirm branding and packing. As a custom surf leash supplier we work to your artwork and packing requirements; send logo files and the packing spec with your enquiry so the quotation reflects them.
  3. Agree quantity, schedule, payment and shipping. These are confirmed per order with your sales contact, because they depend on quantity, finishing and destination rather than on a standard figure.
  4. Ask about samples. If the cuff, cord and swivels need testing before you commit, ask your sales contact about sample availability and how samples are handled.
  5. Set a reorder cycle. Once the first shipment lands, agree a repeat schedule with your contact so the construction and the packing stay identical from one order to the next.

Scale & Supply Capability

CIMI is a factory-based supplier with 16 years in surf and watersports hardgoods, manufacturing at our own facility rather than sourcing through traders. Chain stores, supermarkets and surf-brand stores buy from us because one supplier covers a full accessory assortment, so a season's order and its reorders can be planned together. We take on OEM and private-label work, adapting designs, colourways and branding to your programme, and we schedule production against your agreed range plan. Send us your buy list and target dates, and we will confirm what we can make and when.

FAQ

Will the cuff stay where I set it?

That is exactly what the non-slip design is for. The cuff is padded neoprene with a grip face on the inside and a wide hook-and-loop closure, so once it is set on the beach it should hold its position through paddle-outs and duck dives instead of rotating around your ankle.

Which boards is the 10 ft length meant for?

This 10ft surf leash is meant for longboards and longer mid-lengths. The extra length keeps the board from being pulled straight back into you after a wipeout and gives room to cross-step on the way back out. If you stock shortboards or compact boards, the shorter leashes in the range are a better match, and your sales contact can tell you which lengths pair with the boards you carry.

7 mm or 8 mm — which cord do I need?

7 mm is the all-round choice for medium to large waves on a longboard, and it is what most riders want at this length because it keeps the flex. The 8 mm cord in the same range is the step up for riders who want a thicker cord and a wider rail saver; a 7 mm surf leash stays the lighter, livelier option of the two.

Where should the cuff sit — on the ankle or higher up the leg?

A longboard ankle leash like this one sits just above the ankle bone, tight enough that it cannot slide down over the heel, but not so tight that it marks the skin. Riders who want the cuff higher on the calf, and paddleboarders who use a knee cuff, need a different model in the range.

What size surf is it built for?

Medium to large waves with a longboard. The 7 mm cord has enough material to take the pull of a long board being washed around, and the double swivels keep the cord from loading up while it happens. If your sessions are regularly in genuinely big, heavy surf, the thicker 8 mm cord gives more margin — ask your sales contact to walk you through the big wave surf leash options in the range.

Who are we?

CIMI is a surf leash manufacturer working from our own factory, and we have supplied surf hardware since 2007. We make leashes, traction pads, board covers, fins and racks for surf brands, distribution chains, distributors and individual surfers, and we have worked with more than a thousand companies and individuals so far.

How do you control quality on each order?

Every order is inspected at each stage — incoming materials, assembly and packing — and our R&D team checks the details that decide how a leash behaves: the cord-to-swivel joins, the cuff stitching and the rail saver attachment. Ask your sales contact to take you through the inspection record and sample approval for your order before production starts.

What can you buy from us?

Surf leashes across regular, hypalon, non-slip and coil models plus the SUP range, along with traction pads, board covers, fins and racks. Most buyers open a wholesale longboard surf leash programme with one or two lengths, sell through a season, then widen the ladder.

Why should you buy from us rather than other suppliers?

Because the construction is ours. As a custom surf leash supplier we control the cuff, cord, swivel and rail saver specification inside our own facility, which is what keeps a reorder identical to the first shipment. Sixteen years in surf hardware and long-running partnerships with surf brands are the practical proof of that.

What services can we provide?

As a surf leash manufacturer we take a product from a sketch, a sample or a spec sheet through tooling, production and packing, and we schedule production against your range plan. Your sales contact coordinates the whole order, from specification and sample approval through to the shipment leaving our loading bay.
