Description

Product Overview

This is a six-foot regular surf leash for the sessions most surfers actually get: waist- to head-high beach breaks, onshore chop, and a board that still has to come back after every wipeout. It is sized for shortboards and mid-lengths. Where a compact leash keeps the board closer and cuts the swing that catches rails and legs, this one does the job; longboards and stand-up boards are better served by the longer, heavier models further along the range. Shops usually place this 6ft surf leash in the middle of the wall — between the small-wave 5 ft models and the longboard lengths — so a customer can be matched without being sent elsewhere. As a surf leash manufacturer, we also build this length most often as a wholesale surf leash for chains that want one dependable all-rounder across every store.

Materials & Build

The blend is deliberate rather than a cost exercise. TPU is the cord: a urethane that stretches under load and springs back, which is what separates a tpu surf leash from a stiff cord that passes every jerk straight into the plug. Polypropylene carries the webbing and rail saver because it sheds water and stays firm when soaked; nylon takes the abrasion where the strap folds through the cuff several times a session; neoprene is the padding against the ankle; and the stainless steel is the hardware that has to live in salt water without seizing.

We mould the cord-to-webbing connectors in-house rather than knotting or stitching a join, so the transition sits flush and nothing bunches at the point where the leash takes its hardest pull. The swivel pins run in a marine-grade housing, which is why the joint should still rotate freely after a season of rinse-and-dry instead of rusting into a fixed position.

The finish tells you how the leash is holding up. The webbing is matte and the cord is clear with a red core running through it, so nicks, salt bloom and UV dulling show on the surface rather than hiding under a coating. As a surf leash manufacturer we would rather a shop spot a tired leash on the rack than a customer find it in the water.

- Double-padded neoprene cuff. Two layers of neoprene sit between the webbing and your ankle, so the strap edge never presses straight onto skin. The fold-over shape spreads the load when the leash comes tight in a hold-down instead of digging in at one point. - Quick-release pull tab. A tab on the cuff lets you strip the leash off one-handed when it wraps around a fin or a leg — useful on a rental board when the next rider is already waiting. - Top-grade TPU cord. The 7 mm cord stretches and recovers under load rather than passing one hard shock to the plug, and it hangs straight again after a session instead of staying kinked. - 316 stainless steel double swivels. One swivel at each end lets the cord spin out instead of winding into a spring. 316 is the marine grade, chosen so the joint keeps turning after repeated salt-water use. - Streamlined rail saver. A webbing wrap takes the rub where the leash crosses the rail, keeping the cord away from the board's edge and from the resin at the tail. - Marine-grade hardware. Everything that moves or meets water — swivel pins, connector, rail saver loop — is built for salt, rinse water and a life spent drying on a shop wall.

Length & Board Matching

  • Six feet of reach. A 6ft surf leash keeps a shortboard close enough to grab on the next set without so much slack that the cord loops around your leg during a duck dive.
  • Seven millimetres of cord. The surf leash 7 mm cord sits in the middle of the range: more material than the thin small-wave cords, less bulk than the 8 mm and 9 mm models built for longboards and paddleboards.
  • Matched to medium waves. This regular surfboard ankle leash is sized for waist- to head-high surf and the mixed days around it, not for heavy reef slabs or a shorebreak that snaps leashes.
  • Paired to shorter boards. Shortboards, funboards and mid-lengths are the natural fit. On a longboard or a stand-up board, step up in both length and cord thickness.
  • When to go shorter. For a small-wave board in clean, gutless surf, the 5 ft models reduce swing further; six feet is the safer all-round choice when conditions change through the day.
  • When to go longer. A bigger board, a wider stance during pop-ups, or simply a preference for more distance from the board all point to a longer model in the same construction.

Fitting & Attachment

  1. Thread the rail saver through the leash plug at the tail, then feed the cord back through the saver loop and pull it snug so the webbing — not the cord — sits against the rail.
  2. Flatten the wrap. The saver should lie against the board's edge with no twist; one that sits proud will rub the rail instead of protecting it.
  3. Fit the cuff. Open the surfboard ankle leash strap, slide it over the ankle with the padded side against skin or wetsuit, and close the tab. It should feel firm without pressing on the ankle bone.
  4. Test the swivels. Spin the cord both ways and watch the swivels turn; if the cord winds up instead of rotating, it is twisted at the plug — re-thread it before paddling out.
  5. Re-check after the first few waves. A new leash settles into its wrap after a session, so look at the saver and the tab once more and adjust before it becomes a habit.

Care & Inspection

Rinse the leash in fresh water after every salt-water session and hang it to dry out of direct sun — UV dulls the cord and stiffens the neoprene long before the cord actually fails. Store it loosely coiled rather than folded tight around a fin, and keep it off a hot car dashboard between sessions.

Check it before you paddle out. Run the cord through your fingers looking for nicks, flat spots and any change of colour at the connector; open the cuff and look at the stitching and the webbing where it folds; spin both swivels and make sure they still turn. Sun, reef and time all leave marks, and a cord that has gone opaque or frayed at the join is telling you to stop using it.

Replace the leash at the first deep nick or the first swivel that stops turning. A custom surfboard leash is still a consumable, and a new one costs far less than a board washing into the rocks. Keep it for its intended purpose: it is not a tow line, a carry strap or a toy, and it should be checked before every use, especially after a heavy fall or a long spell in direct sunlight.

Ordering & Delivery

  • Confirm the code first. this product covers the 6 ft x 7 mm regular model. The range also carries a 6 ft hypalon-cuff version with a 6 mm cord, so quote the model number on your purchase order to avoid a mix-up at packing.
  • Packaging specification. Each leash ships in a printed cardboard sleeve. Tell us what artwork, barcode or size marking has to appear, and we will confirm the sleeve layout before production.
  • Custom surfboard leash work. Cuff colour, logo patch, cord tint and sleeve design can be adapted to your own label. Send the artwork with your enquiry so the options we quote are the ones that fit your programme.
  • Mixed wholesale surf leash orders. Lengths and cuff styles can be combined in one order so a store opens with a full leash wall rather than a single size; give us a breakdown by model when you ask for pricing.
  • One accessory order. Leashes, fins, traction pads, board covers and racks come from the same factory, so a leash reorder can travel with the rest of your accessory buy.
  • Samples and approvals. Ask your sales contact about sample availability, and allow time to test the cuff and the swivel before committing a season's order.
  • Lead time and terms. Production scheduling, payment terms and shipping arrangements are confirmed per order with your sales contact; they depend on quantity, packaging and the season you are buying for.
  • Coverage. The packaging carries a 12-month term from the date of purchase covering manufacturing defects only. Damage from use, reef contact or long UV exposure is not covered.

Scale & Supply Capability

CIMI is a factory-based supplier with 16 years in surf and watersports hardgoods, manufacturing at our own facility rather than sourcing through traders. Chain stores, supermarkets and surf-brand stores buy from us because one supplier covers a full accessory assortment, so a season's order and its reorders can be planned together. We take on OEM and private-label work, adapting designs, colourways and branding to your programme, and we schedule production against your agreed range plan. Send us your buy list and target dates, and we will confirm what we can make and when.

FAQ

What conditions is this 6ft surf leash designed for?

Medium-sized waves and all-round conditions: waist- to head-high beach breaks, onshore chop and the mixed days in between. It is not a heavy-wave or big-swell leash — for hollow reef or serious size, choose a thicker cord and a longer model.

Is six feet long enough for a longboard?

Usually not. A longboard carries more volume and swings wider, so it travels further from you in a wipeout. Six feet is generally appropriate on shortboards and mid-lengths; the longer, thicker models in the range are the more suitable match for a longboard.

How does the surf leash 7 mm cord compare with an 8 mm one?

Seven millimetres is the all-round cord: lighter and more forgiving than 8 mm, so it stretches further under the same pull and rolls smaller for storage. An 8 mm cord resists bigger loads on longer boards, which is why it is used further up the range.

Will the cuff fit over a wetsuit or a bootie?

Yes — the padded cuff sits comfortably over a wetsuit or a standard bootie, and the tab closes it firmly without needing to be over-tightened. With very thick winter booties, try one on before committing a season's stock.

What makes this a tpu surf leash rather than a plain urethane cord?

TPU has better memory. It stretches under load and returns to shape, so it resists the kinks and flat spots that appear on cheaper cords after a few months of use, and it hangs straight again between sessions.

Can the cuff and packaging be branded for our shop?

Yes. Cuff colour, the logo patch and the sleeve artwork are all part of a custom surfboard leash programme. Send your files with the enquiry and we will confirm patch size and colour against your artwork before production.

Where is this leash made?

It is made in China at our own factory. CIMI has been a surf leash manufacturer since 2007, with moulding, sewing and inspection under one roof, so the cord, cuff and connector on this model stay consistent from one reorder to the next.
