Description

Product Overview

The L22512H is the 8ft surf leash in CIMI's Hypalon line, the model built for longboards: a TPU cord with a wraparound ankle cuff at one end and a streamlined rail saver at the other, joined by 316 stainless swivels. It is the length we build for longboards and the larger mid-lengths — the boards that run further out on the wave and need more cord between the tail and the ankle.

On the water it behaves the way a longboard surf leash should. The cord pays out without dragging at the ankle, the swivels keep the line from winding up through a turn, and the rail saver spreads the load across the tail instead of cutting into it. The cord is the middle weight in the line, so it stays predictable when the swell is up but doesn't turn a small day into hard work.

Longboard riders usually buy this one as a replacement, or as a second leash for a bigger board. Shops, surf schools and rental desks buy it as part of a wholesale surf leash selection, matched to the board lengths they actually stock and often ordered alongside the boards and the parts that go with them.

Materials & Build

  • Composition: 60% TPU, 15% polypropylene, 10% neoprene, 10% nylon and 5% stainless steel — the full breakdown of the finished leash, not just the cord.
  • Cord: top-grade TPU, the largest single component at 60%. It is the part that stretches and recovers, so its grade is what keeps strength stable session after session.
  • Cuff: the cuff on this surfboard ankle leash is ultra-light with strong construction — a firmer, thinner material than padded neoprene, which is why it sits light on the ankle.
  • Padding and webbing: neoprene and nylon form the soft body of the cuff and the webbing that carries the closure.
  • Rail saver: a streamlined moulding that sits between the cord and the tail, taking the wear that would otherwise land on the board's rail.
  • Specified as one unit: as a custom surfboard leash supplier we set the cord, cuff and hardware for a model together, so the finished leash is designed as a single assembly rather than parts that happen to fit.

Cuff & Cord Reach

The cuff is where most leashes are judged. Hypalon is specified here as an ultra-light material with strong construction: it holds its shape around the ankle without the padded bulk of a neoprene cuff, and it does not soak up water the way a thick pad can. The wrap closure opens wide enough to go over a wetsuit ankle and closes down on bare skin, so the surfboard ankle leash stays where you put it when you are getting worked in the shore break. On a longboard, where you are moving up and down the deck constantly, that difference in weight and bulk is felt at the end of a session.

The other half of fit is reach. Surf leash length decides how much cord lies in the water when you are standing mid-board and how much slack there is when you kick out. Eight feet of cord gives a longboard room to run without pulling the rail saver tight against the tail every time the board reaches the end of the line, and it keeps the swivels clear of the deck when you are sitting on the board between sets. On a shortboard the same cord becomes slack in the water, which is why shorter boards are better served by the shorter models in the line.

Use, Care & Safety

  1. Rinse the 8ft surf leash and cuff in fresh water after every session in the sea, then hang it loosely coiled to dry out of direct sun.
  2. Check the cord along its whole length before each use — nicks, cloudy patches or a cord that has lost its memory mean it is time to replace it.
  3. Turn both swivels by hand; a swivel that has seized will load the cord and shorten its working life.
  4. Check the rail saver where it meets the tail and the string loop at the cuff, since these are the two points that wear first.
  5. Store it coiled and unhooked rather than stretched around a board or a rack, so the cord keeps its elasticity between trips.
  6. A leash is not a life-saving device: check the leash and its attachment points before each use, do not use a damaged one, and treat surfing as the hazardous sport it is.

Matching Gear

  • The rest of the Hypalon line: the same build in 6 ft 6 mm, 7 ft 7 mm and 9 ft 8 mm, so one cord length can be assigned to each board size on the wall. - Longboard sets: pair this longboard surf leash with an 8 ft 2 or 9 ft 1 board so a customer leaves with a complete setup rather than a leash that has to be matched later. - Fins: honeycomb fins in single-tab and double-tab, plus timber, G10 glass and nylon options for the same board. - Traction: tail pads, centre pads and waxless pads, including pads for skimboards, for riders who want grip without wax. - Covers: basic bags, regular bags and stretch covers for transport and storage between sessions. - Racks: travel rax and tie-downs, storage racks, display racks and bike racks for shops and schools moving boards in volume.

Ordering & Delivery

  1. Confirm the lengths and cord mix against the board sizes you stock, so each board is paired with the right cord rather than a single blanket size across a wholesale surf leash order.
  2. Ask your sales contact about sample availability and the current lead time for this model.
  3. Confirm packing, carton marks and shipping terms for your destination before the order is placed.
  4. Send your own specification if you need a branded build — as a custom surfboard leash supplier we confirm cuff, cord and branding requirements in writing first.
  5. Agree the delivery schedule and destinations up front so a reorder can be raised against the same confirmed specification.

Scale & Supply Capability

CIMI is a factory-based supplier with 16 years in surf and watersports hardgoods, manufacturing at our own facility rather than sourcing through traders. Chain stores, supermarkets and surf-brand stores buy from us because one supplier covers a full accessory assortment, so a season's order and its reorders can be planned together. We take on OEM and private-label work, adapting designs, colourways and branding to your programme, and we schedule production against your agreed range plan. Send us your buy list and target dates, and we will confirm what we can make and when.

FAQ

What size board is the 8ft surf leash built for?

It is sized for longboards and larger mid-lengths — the cord gives a 9 ft board room to run without the rail saver loading against the tail. On a shortboard the same length turns into extra slack in the water, so shorter boards are better served by the 5 ft and 6 ft models in the range.

What makes a Hypalon surf leash different from a neoprene one?

The cuff. Hypalon is ultra-light with strong construction, so it holds its shape around the ankle without the padded bulk of a neoprene cuff and there is less material between your ankle and the board. The cord, swivels and rail saver follow the same specification as the rest of the range.

Is this only a longboard surf leash?

Longboards are what it was sized for, but it also suits bigger mid-lengths and any rider who wants more cord between the tail and the ankle. If most of your quiver is 6 ft shortboards, a shorter leash will feel cleaner and drag less in the water.

How much surf leash length does a longboard need?

Length is matched to the board it is attached to, and the Hypalon line runs 6 ft, 7 ft, 8 ft and 9 ft so each board size can have its own. For a longboard, take the longer cord: the extra reach keeps the rail saver off the tail and stops the cord going taut whenever the board reaches the end of the line.

Will the cuff work as a surfboard ankle leash over a wetsuit?

Yes. The wrap closure opens wide and closes down again, so it sits over a wetsuit ankle or directly on bare skin, and the lightweight cuff does not need a thick pad to stay in place. Check the closure and the string loop before each session, as you would on any leash.

Can we order this leash under our own brand?

Yes. We work as a custom surfboard leash supplier for shops, schools and brands, building from a specification sheet rather than a fixed catalogue line. Cuff type, cord thickness and branding can be discussed for a programme; send your requirements through your sales contact and we will confirm what can be built.

Is the build the same from one order to the next?

As a surf leash manufacturer we hold the cord, cuff and hardware specification fixed for a model, so a reorder is built to the same sheet as the first delivery. If a cuff or cord needs to change, it becomes a new specification agreed in writing before production starts.
