Description

Product Overview

The regular longboard surf leash in this size is the middle rung of the line: a 9 ft cord at 7 mm thick, built for longboards and mid-lengths ridden in small to medium surf. It sits between the short all-round leashes and the 10 ft models, which is why it ends up on so many everyday longboards.

At 9 ft with a 7 mm cord, the 9ft surf leash gives the board room to roll out in a wipeout without a hard snatch at the ankle, and it stays light enough that it does not drag when you paddle or walk the board to the water. The cord is a single TPU length, with a streamlined rail saver at the board end and a double-padded neoprene cuff at the ankle.

As a surf leash manufacturer we build the cuff, cord and hardware in our own factory, so the padding, the cord gauge and the swivels stay consistent from one production run to the next.

Shops usually place it as the comfort pick on the leash wall — softer at the ankle than a plain cuff, and an easy add-on when a customer buys a longboard. In a wholesale or custom surf leash order it works as part of a graded range, with room above and below it for heavier and lighter set-ups.

- What the 9 ft length is for — This is the length we match to longboards and mid-lengths in everyday surf: enough cord for the board to roll out in a wipeout without a hard snatch at the ankle, and short enough to stay out of the way when you carry the board down the beach. - Why 7 mm rather than 8 mm — The 7 mm surf leash is the all-round gauge for this board and wave range; an 8 mm cord belongs on a heavier board or a day that keeps pushing, and it adds weight and stiffness you do not need in small to medium surf. - Longboard pairing — At this length there is room to walk the nose without running the cord taut; if the board is very long, or you regularly surf it in building swell, the 10 ft version of the same build adds reach without changing anything else. - Measuring a replacement — Lay the old leash flat and unloaded and measure from swivel to swivel rather than end to end; a cord that has been stored coiled reads short until it relaxes, so do not size up from a cold measurement. - Cuff fit — The cuff closes over bare skin or a boot; check that the strap sits flush all the way round and that the padded edge is not pinching at the heel. - Where an ankle cuff stops being enough — Riders who want the attachment higher up the leg, or who paddle out through shore break, should look at the knee-cuff leashes in the range instead of this ankle model.

Key Features

  • Double-padded neoprene cuff — Built as a surfboard ankle leash with two layers of padding rather than one, so the strap edge sits softer against the ankle through a long session and the cuff does not bite when the board pulls.
  • 7 mm TPU cord — The 7 mm surf leash cord is the working part of the product: it takes the load in small to medium surf and still coils down small enough to fit a board bag pocket.
  • Top-grade TPU compound — A tpu surf leash returns to shape after it has been stretched instead of staying kinked, which is what keeps the cord hanging cleanly session after session.
  • Streamlined rail saver — The rail saver spreads the pull over a wider patch of rail and lies flat when the leash is slack, cutting the lift that makes a cord saw against the board edge on turns.
  • 316 stainless steel swivels — Two swivels, one at the cuff and one at the rail end, let the cord untwist instead of loading up with turns, so the leash hangs straight and is less likely to wrap a leg on the pop-up.

Range & Pairing

The range around this model covers the rest of the leash wall: regular leashes in shorter and longer lengths, hypalon-cuff versions for riders who want less bulk at the ankle, a non-slip cuff, coil leashes and SUP leashes in knee and ankle styles. Because the same surf leash manufacturer also makes fins, traction pads, board covers and racks, a wholesale surf leash order can be planned together with the rest of the accessory buy — honeycomb, timber, G10 or nylon fins, tail and centre pads, a basic or stretch cover, and a wall, travel or storage rack — instead of being split across several vendors. For the rider, the sensible add-ons are the ones that go on the same board: a set of fins to match the board's boxes, a tail pad for grip under the back foot, a cover for transport and a rack for storage at home. None of them change how the leash performs; they simply make the board ready to use.

Use & Care

  1. Rinse the leash in fresh water after every saltwater session, working the cuff padding and both swivels so salt does not dry inside the webbing.
  2. Run your hand along the cord before you hang it up and look for nicks or flat spots; a cord that has lost its round section is closer to failing than one with surface marks.
  3. Turn each swivel by hand while it is still wet — a surfboard ankle leash swivel should move freely, and if it grinds, rinse again and let it dry before storage.
  4. Dry the leash flat or hanging, out of direct sun; a tpu surf leash cord left on a hot deck or across a car window will stiffen and take a set.
  5. Store it coiled loosely rather than folded tight, and never hang a board by its leash or use the leash as a carry handle.
  6. Retire the leash when the cuff padding has flattened through, the webbing at the rail saver has frayed, or the cord shows a deep cut — a leash is a wear item, not a permanent part of the board.

Ordering & Delivery

  1. Send your range and quantities — tell your sales contact which lengths, cuff styles and cord gauges you want and how many of each, and we will confirm what is available and what needs to be scheduled.
  2. Confirm the specification in writing — check the length, cord thickness and cuff style against this model on the first order, especially if you are rebuilding a leash wall that came from another supplier.
  3. Agree branding and packing — for a custom surf leash program, sign off artwork, cuff branding and swing tags before production starts, and work from an approved piece rather than a description.
  4. Ask about order terms — quantity, lead time, payment terms and carton configuration are set per order, and your sales contact will confirm them for your volumes rather than quoting a fixed figure here.
  5. Confirm the delivery point — agree the port or destination, the shipping terms and the packing format with your sales contact when the order is placed.
  6. Keep the approved piece on file — as a surf leash manufacturer we hold the signed-off reference against the production run, so the cuff, cord and hardware stay the same from the first order to the fifth.
  7. Plan the reorder around your season — a wholesale surf leash buy is usually restocked before the local season opens, so place the repeat early enough for production and freight to fit inside that window.

Scale & Supply Capability

CIMI is a factory-based supplier with 16 years in surf and watersports hardgoods, manufacturing at our own facility rather than sourcing through traders. Chain stores, supermarkets and surf-brand stores buy from us because one supplier covers a full accessory assortment, so a season's order and its reorders can be planned together. We take on OEM and private-label work, adapting designs, colourways and branding to your programme, and we schedule production against your agreed range plan. Send us your buy list and target dates, and we will confirm what we can make and when.

FAQ

Is the 9ft surf leash the right length for my board?

Nine feet is the longboard length in this range: it suits longboards and mid-lengths ridden in small to medium surf. If your board is very long, or you surf it in swell that keeps building, the 10 ft version of the same build gives you more cord without changing the cuff or the hardware.

Why is this a 7 mm cord rather than 8 mm?

The 7 mm cord on the 9ft surf leash is the all-round gauge for this board and wave range — light enough to stay flexible at the ankle and thick enough to hold a longboard in small to medium surf. The 8 mm versions in the range are for heavier boards and days that keep pushing.

Will the cuff rub during a long session?

The cuff is double-padded neoprene, so a surfboard ankle leash built this way has two layers between the webbing and your skin. Fit matters as much as padding: the strap should sit flush all the way round, and it should close over bare skin or a boot without pinching at the heel.

What does the TPU cord do differently from a cheaper cord?

A tpu surf leash holds its stretch and returns to shape after it has been loaded, instead of staying kinked the way a stiff, low-grade cord does. That is what keeps the leash hanging cleanly and coiling down small enough for a board bag pocket.

Can the cuff and packaging carry our shop's branding?

Yes — we produce custom surf leash programs with your branding on the cuff, your swing tag and your packaging, so the stock arrives ready for your shelf. Artwork and branding are agreed before production, and your sales contact will confirm what is possible for your order.

How is this different from the hypalon longboard surf leash in the same length?

Both use the same 7 mm TPU cord and the same streamlined rail saver, and both are built for small to medium surf. The difference is the cuff: this model uses double-padded neoprene, while the hypalon version uses a lighter hypalon cuff for riders who want less bulk at the ankle.
