Description

Product Overview

What separates this model from the rest of the line is the ankle end — an ultra-light hypalon cuff in place of the thicker padded neoprene build, so the leash sits lighter on the leg while the cord keeps its full strength. Surf shops and rental operators choose this wholesale surf leash for the longboard customer who wants a comfortable ankle leash rather than a heavy-duty model. It also works as a step-up for a rider moving from a shortboard onto a mid-length or longboard, where the extra reach and the softer cuff are felt in the first session. Brands that want their own identity on the product can have the cuff, the strap and the packaging set to their programme.

Materials & Build

- Ultra-light hypalon cuff — the ankle end is a slim hypalon shell rather than the double-padded neoprene cuff we use on the regular longboard surf leash, so there is noticeably less bulk against the leg while the cord keeps its full strength. - Top-grade TPU cord — the 7 mm cord does the real work. TPU holds stable strength and returns to shape after a stretch, so a board that tumbles in the whitewater gets pulled back instead of hanging off a cord that has gone slack. - Streamlined rail saver — the webbing wrap at the board end spreads the pull over a wider area and keeps the cord from sawing into the rail, which is how most board damage happens when a leash is used hard. - 316 stainless steel swivels — the swivels turn under load so the cord does not twist itself into tight coils. 316 is the marine grade, chosen for salt water rather than occasional fresh-water use. - Assembled in our own workshop — as a surf leash manufacturer we join the cuff, cord and hardware ourselves, so a reorder matches the batch you approved instead of drifting in colour or stiffness. - Coils flat, packs small — the finished leash coils tidily for pegboard display or a packaging sleeve, which matters when a wholesale surf leash order has to fit dozens of lengths on one accessory wall.

Dimensions & Fit

Length and cord thickness are the two numbers that decide whether a leash suits a board; as a surf leash manufacturer we fix both here at 9 ft (2.7 m) overall, with a 9/32 in (7 mm) cord. The 9 ft is measured end to end — rail saver, cord and cuff together — so the working distance between the board and your ankle is slightly shorter than the figure suggests. That matters when you compare it against a leash quoted on cord length alone. On the water, a 9ft surf leash is the length most longboard riders settle on. It gives the board room to move through a wipeout without the extra slack a 10 ft leash puts into the system, and it stays manageable when the board is on your head walking down the beach. Matching the leash roughly to the board is the usual rule of thumb, and 9 ft lands on the longboard and funboard family comfortably. The 7 mm surf leash cord sits in the middle of what we make: thick enough to hold a longboard in the small to medium surf this model is built for, flexible enough to stay soft in cold water and to cut through the surface instead of dragging on it. Checking a length against a board takes a minute. Lay the board flat, run a tape from the leash plug to your ankle and compare the result with 9 ft; if the boards your customers ride sit well past that, the longer model in the family is the safer stock line, and if they ride funboards and mid-lengths, 9 ft is the one that moves.

Cuff & Ankle Comfort

  • Hypalon shell, not padded neoprene — hypalon is a synthetic rubber used where sun and salt resistance matter. On this hypalon surf leash the shell is thin and smooth, so it does not hold water or sit heavy on the ankle the way a thick padded cuff can.
  • Slim against the ankle bone — this surfboard ankle leash sits flat where the ankle meets the foot, which is the spot that rubs during a long paddle. Less material there means less chafing while you sit on the board waiting for a set.
  • Adjustable closure with spare overlap — the strap closes over a bare ankle or a wetsuit ankle and keeps enough overlap to stay put once tightened, with the tail tucking flat instead of standing up to catch on the rail.
  • Less to notice when you walk the board — walking out through the shore break with a longboard on your head, a bulky cuff is the part you feel. The lighter shell keeps the leash out of the way while you cross-step or carry.
  • Dries quickly between sessions — hypalon sheds water, so the cuff is not still damp the next morning and does not sit in a van holding salt and rubber smell for a week.
  • Cuff colour as a merchandising decision — cuff and strap colour is the first thing most brands change when they order custom surf leashes, and a contrast cuff reads clearly on a crowded accessory wall.

Care & Inspection

  1. Rinse it in fresh water after every session, working around the cuff strap and both swivels where salt collects.
  2. Check the rail saver webbing and the stitch line where it meets the cord; that join takes the hardest pull when the board is washed away from you.
  3. Run the cord through your hands from end to end and look for nicks, flat spots or a milky discoloration. Any of these means the cord is on its way out and the surfboard ankle leash should be retired before it fails in the water.
  4. Turn each swivel by hand. It should rotate freely and quietly; a stiff or gritty swivel twists the cord and shortens its life.
  5. Dry it loosely coiled, out of direct sun, and never store it under tension or in a hot car — heat and a stretched coil both take the memory out of the TPU.
  6. Replace on condition rather than on a calendar. A leash that has been rinsed, checked and stored properly still gets retired at the first real nick, not at the end of a fixed season.

Ordering & Custom Programs

  1. Give your sales contact the mix you want. Wholesale surf leash orders are built by length and cuff, so list the split across 5 ft to 10 ft and quote the code L22514H for this 9 ft model.
  2. Confirm the cuff and strap colours. This is the first decision most brands make on custom surf leashes, because it decides how the leash reads on the wall.
  3. Send artwork if the cuff strap or the printed sleeve should carry your logo, along with the colour references you work to.
  4. Agree the packing format — poly bag, header card or hanging sleeve — plus carton marks, barcodes and any shelf-ready requirements your accounts work to.
  5. Confirm quantities, unit price, payment terms and the delivery window with your sales contact before you commit to dates. These are quoted per order and per destination.
  6. Ask for the batch specification sheet. As a surf leash manufacturer we keep cord, cuff and hardware details on file so a reorder can be matched.
  7. Consolidate the shipment. The same production line covers fins, traction pads, board covers and racks, so the whole accessory wall can travel on one order and one set of documents.

Scale & Supply Capability

CIMI is a factory-based supplier with 16 years in surf and watersports hardgoods, manufacturing at our own facility rather than sourcing through traders. Chain stores, supermarkets and surf-brand stores buy from us because one supplier covers a full accessory assortment, so a season's order and its reorders can be planned together. We take on OEM and private-label work, adapting designs, colourways and branding to your programme, and we schedule production against your agreed range plan. Send us your buy list and target dates, and we will confirm what we can make and when.

FAQ

Which conditions is this 9ft surf leash built for?

Small to medium surf, with a longboard or funboard as the board in the water. That is the range this longboard surf leash was designed around: enough length for the board to move away from you in a wipeout, without the extra slack a 10 ft model puts into the system. If your customers regularly ride heavy, sustained large surf on a long board, the 9 ft x 8 mm hypalon model is the one to stock instead.

How does the hypalon cuff compare with the neoprene cuff on the regular model?

Lighter and slimmer against the ankle. This hypalon surf leash uses a thin hypalon shell where the regular line uses a double-padded neoprene cuff, so you lose bulk but keep the same 7 mm surf leash cord underneath — the strength is in the cord, not in the padding. Riders who walk the board a lot, or who find a padded cuff hot and heavy in warm water, tend to prefer it.

Should a shop stock the 9ft surf leash, or move up to 10 ft?

Both usually, but for different customers. The 9ft surf leash is the longboard surf leash for small to medium surf and boards in the longboard and funboard family; the 10 ft model earns its shelf space with the longest boards and bigger days, where the extra reach keeps the board from loading the cord. If you can only carry one, 9 ft covers more of the longboard market.

Is 7 mm cord enough, or should we order 8 mm?

For small to medium surf, 7 mm is enough. The 7 mm surf leash cord is the middle of our range: it takes the load of a longboard without the stiffness of an 8 mm cord and stays flexible in cold water. Move up to 8 mm when the board is genuinely long and heavy, or when the leash is expected to work in bigger, more sustained surf.

Will the cuff close over a wetsuit as well as a bare ankle?

Yes. The strap on this surfboard ankle leash keeps enough overlap to close over a bare ankle in summer or over a wetsuit ankle in colder water, and the tail tucks flat once it is tight. If your customers wear thick winter boots, ask your sales contact for a cuff to check the fit against the thickness they actually wear before you commit to a full run.

Can we order these with our own logo and colours?

Yes. We produce custom surf leashes with the cuff colour, strap colour, logo placement and packaging set to your programme, while the cord, cuff construction and 316 stainless hardware stay the same as the standard model. Send your artwork and colour references, and our team will confirm what can be matched before production starts.
